Brooklyn Fashion Gallery launched

Brooklyn's Fashion Designers take controll of their destiny

At the end of this monththe Brooklyn Fashion Gallery, will be launched, the next step in the fashion initiative that evoled from Artist Mosaic into the A-liners project. Whereas Am Explored a forum where, art, culture, heritage, enterprise, creativity and modern opportunity could converge! The A-liners explored a specific industry and grass roots approached to meeting challenges within brooklyn's fashion industry. Even before the start of this, myself and other designers have discussed the need for a unified Trade initiative and a Brooklyn Fashion Week. At the start of the A-liners We set the Spring 2007 couture presentation as the mark for Brooklyn designers to enter the forum of a Brooklyn Fashion Week. After discussion with close to a hundred designers, design and fashion profesionals and several meetings The general concensus is a collaborative trade event that uniquely suits the specific challenges of Brooklyn's design community! Brooklyns designers are doing well, but are at a crucial point where investment dollars, factoring and manufacturing relationship and creative marketing is needed. please visit www.brooklynfashiongallery.com and sign on. Designers and fashion professional will find more than a meresite, BFG is a community portal designed to augment their individual efforts and to take advantage of new media advancements!

Presenting The A-liners

we're getting there

So i finally figured a way to present the A-liners
since attending Bar Camp earlier this year i have totally revised a lot of my web strategy. These guys create the latest web tools for new media! the problem still exist in convincing the community to get on board early. Think... the web is only about ten years old, it is undergoing a major change. NOW IS THE TIME TO get on Board. SuprGlu Has Sponsored the fashion Feed And I'm preparing Tutorial with thumbstack's application! Our Map is courtesy Frappr, the pics hosted on Flickr The slide show which i'd previously spend a day coding is courtesy of slide dot com. the individual artist blogs are hosted on blogger. what i need was a content management system and with all respect to the guys @ drupal I had to opt for joomla! For a non techie it is just simpler to understand and work with. Many question using other peoples tools, the natural imperialist and capitalist frame of mind is to own. Creativity is a gift to be shared, and while i believe in responsibility to the artist, for maximizing the value of the work, if no one knows the artist exist they cannot patronize him. Fashion, in fact any creative format is rife with content for these new media tools! The applications designers need the imput of the creative community to strengten the usability of their tools. Case in point Sstream studio, It helps that he is my brother , I have the advantage of communicating exactly what i needed, he sees how someone with little Technical ability handles his products. The result I have tools that work for me. His media product which are being released are functional. The next step getting the creative individual to supply content.

An April 1st to remember

The Grandassa models The Birth of the "Black is Beautiful" movement

Urban Style
Natacha In BS Shirts @ Urban Fashion Festival!
It was on April first 1961 that the first large scale fashion show promoting african beauty and "black is beautiful " was held in Harlem. To Say there was resistance would be an understament! We've come a long way but have we gone the right way! There are still rumours on maximum quotas on ethnic models during fashion week. And from all reports Black designers are comfortable with it! As I sit with elders to document the history of Black fashion I am reminded that there is little new under the sun! Very little is documented about fashion in the community, almost a half century later we still are debating the pros and cons of using our models. Why? Our choice of Models should reflect our customers, or should they?Look for the story Of the Grandassa models with the inaugural issue of The Brooklyn Fashion Gallery

Plitzs FAll 2006 Fashion Week Designer Shows

Let;s Back it up BabY!

I'll be the first to admit this article is way overdue and I apologise to Zoii and the guy's @ Plitzs at the same time I'd like to thank the folks @ NACC And Caribbean American weekly for giving them some well deserved press.

Fashion Week is the premiere business showcase in this industry and we do need a venue that allows us an opportunity to showcase our fashion. the Staff at Plitzs has taken on That mammoth cause and I hope you would give your support also. Since I missed most of the shows, and worked on William Fleets TBA Line, I'm reserving comment on the lines, lest my bias show!

The Shows organization was great. This team without a doubt is well versed in fashion runway prentation. They attracted press and given the competition the attendance was great. Check the site for their professional video of fall 2006 fashion week designer shows or take a peak at my amateur footage!

There were two things I'd recommend changing. The Venue the owner of that venue has some serious issues which he translates to visitors to the point of intrusion. The lighting was terrible, details on the clothing were hard to see! Then again that may have been due to the fact that the clothing were not designed for presentation, details were not emphasized and clear design directions were not apparent.

Folks we have to take ourselves seriously to be taken seriously. Stylist DAVI pulled together one of the best staging @ the shows I attended. Which leads to the recommeddation That designers start seeking the services of gifted stylists to maximize their show impact!

Second this IS A BUSINESS PRESENTATION! There were some Sorority sisters @ this event who forgot or did not know that! One of the problems resulting from our college circuit scenario. THEY would not have put down that behaviour @ one of their business presentations. Designers we need to respect ouselves before we demand respect! Many of us are 'pimping' our talents. Some designers even ran out on the guest. Take yourself seriously ! Take the efforts of Plitzs and other such group seriously. Take the press seriously!Take your audience seriously! Take your customers seriously!

There is so much more to a Fashion Week than just the runway. Plitzs has bravely stepped where few would venture. There is a lot to work out, but I for one applaud their efforts. I would recommend those who intend to participate in the September shows contact Plitz and start preparation early!

Spring is in the Air rather spring fasion is in the air

Spring is in the air !!!
... and the racks, they are changing

I stopped by Moshoods recently, to leave some flyers about my new multi-media site and thank Kunle for the use of their video and their support of the A-liners. while there I decided to get an early start my article on Brooklyn spring trend's for CALABAR, the new lifestyle magazine By Atim Oton, the former editor of Sapphire and Indigo Magazines. I must say that I was really impressed, Moshood has what is probably one of the best design interpretation of spring's stipes trend, I have come across. Stripes are one of the most difficult motifs to success fully translate to wearable clothing , and Moshood's eclectic clientele. The Folks @ this veteran New York Afro stylePalace, showed why they remain @ the top, they created a line that flatters a myriaad of figure types ... they did one hell of a job.

IT's time to take care of Business

Technology for clothiers!

I recently came across This interesting software while searching for a link to English Cut!

Tailor cut software for palm os

Tailor Cut v 1.0 FREEWARE Requirements: Palm OS® 3.5 or higher

Summary:
This program is specially designed for custom tailor / fashion designer or anyone who going to make/design their own clothing/dress/shirt as a hobby. Tailor Log will keep track all the body measurements for your client or family members.

it may help some of you!

Tailor, dressmaker, designer, stylist,

What Are You?!

Art, Bespoke, Bespoke Tailoring, Business, Craft, Design, Designing, Fashion, Savile Row, Sewing, Style, Suits Tailoring

I recently was reminded of English cut when I met the gentleman who had introduced the blogging culture to the bespoke tailor in question @ BarCamp. An excellent example of use of blogs in business! I encourage all designers to peruse it!So How do you define yourself! How do you expect others to define you! There is a huge amount of talent among out there! I recently attended Plitzs Fashion Week presentation and I APPLAUd them! Look For post and video coming soon. But I was alarmed At the loud behavior from some attendees. A Fashion designers' FAshion week Presentation is for all intent and purposes abusiness presentation! And These professional would not have conducted themselves in such a maner @ their professional showcase! But many of us have ceased being in the business of the design and sale of clothing. We Are solely stage performers with an established circuit! And lest you think I disapprove, I believe that circuit is vital , but again What Are You! Where is the Money at! Before you answer check out this site!

Then answer this designer survey Let's get a handle on our industry!

Examine the various levels of detail and pricing involved in

Check out bespoke

"Bespoke is a usually British English term for clothing made at a customer's behest, and exactly to the customer's specification. Bespoke clothing is created without use of a pre-existing pattern; rather, the tailor makes the pattern based on the customer's body. This separates bespoke from "made to measure" clothing, which is made using a base pattern that is modified to the customer's body.

"Ready to wear" clothing is made to a uniform pattern, without variation.

"Bespoke" refers to the act of "speaking" for the cloth, choosing it to be made into a garment.
